veteran's open, day one

I've got about an hour before round four begins, so this entry will be the posting of my two games yesterday. At least I can say that I minimized "drifting" and did better at falsifying my candidate moves. I am, however, still much too inconsistent when it comes to examining each position.

You've improved a lot, Greg, as evident in the second game. You got an attack and then finished strong, good job on that.

First game, not sure why Be3 wasn't played but I thought the move that did your game in was walking the king to the kingside instead of the queenside, and of course pushing kingside pawns after that.

Oh yeah, Be3 drops the b-pawn.

My brain was toast earlier from yesterday's tournament. It's funny how I suddenly remember why you can't play it many hours later, out of the blue, like my brain just woke up again so I had to come to the computer and write this reply. hehe.

LinuxGuy: Thanks. The phenomenon of after-the-fact realization happens to me all the time. Even this morning I was playing over the 4th and 5th round games and I realized opportunities I never saw during the game.

First game it seems you have a plan you act to but forget that your opponent also has plans to which he acts.

Second game was good, you had a plan and also took care of your opponents plan, a great win!

chesstiger: I agree with your comment about the first game. I need work on handling counterplay.
